«It is our collective duty to remember this tragic page of history» – Belgian Foreign Minister
Diplomatic communications between our two countries are regular, but it has been 8 years since the Belgian Foreign Minister set foot on Armenian soil. This statement was made by Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Labib during a briefing following negotiations with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“It could be said, an eternity has passed, and it was time to change the situation. With great emotion, I paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide; it is our collective duty to not forget this tragic page of history. We also have a responsibility to do everything possible to prevent history from repeating itself,” emphasized the head of the Belgian foreign affairs department.
He proudly noted that today around 30,000 Armenians live in Belgium. He happily announced that, at his suggestion, the Council of Ministers has decided to open an embassy in Armenia.
“This powerful gesture demonstrates the importance we attach to our political relations, but also our will to further strengthen our communications in political, cultural, academic, and economic realms,” said the Belgian Foreign Minister.
According to him, there are opportunities to develop these relations, and several Belgian companies are eager to find partners in Armenia.
