I Don't Think the U.S. Wants to Be Part of Ethnic Cleansing by Baku in Nagorno-Karabakh: Armenia’s Foreign Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated that the United States does not wish to be part of the ethnic cleansing being carried out by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh. He made this comment during a joint press conference with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, addressing the concern that the U.S. is obstructing the process for the adoption of a resolution by the UN Security Council.

“The world sees Azerbaijan’s policy of ethnic cleansing towards the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. I do not think the U.S. is in any way prepared or willing to be part of or contribute to that policy of ethnic cleansing. It is hard for me to imagine that,” said the Armenian Foreign Minister.

He expressed confidence that U.S. officials understand the scale and increasing tempo of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, the U.S. is aware that a possible resolution from the UN Security Council could help resolve this situation, which would put an end to the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. Mirzoyan emphasized that this resolution could also help bring the parties back to the negotiating agenda.
