VIDEO: Over 200 Ships Stuck in Panama Canal Due to Worst Drought in 100 Years
More than 200 ships have become "stuck" in the Panama Canal due to the worst drought in a century. Local media report that several of them have become lodged in swamps.
It is expected that the reduction in shipping capacity will lead to rising prices for goods, primarily in the Americas.
“If sufficient rain does not occur, the transit of vessels is reduced, and those crossing the border pay huge surcharges, increasing transportation costs for cargo owners such as U.S. oil and gas exporters and Asian importers,” The Wall Street Journal reports.
These undesired developments could further pressure consumer goods prices.
