Azerbaijan Targets Kapan's 'Syunik' Civil Airport: Head of Public Relations and Information Center
Azerbaijan has targeted Kapan's 'Syunik' civil airport. This information was reported by Gor Tsarukyan, the head of the Public Relations and Information Center under the Prime Minister's Office of Armenia.
“Azerbaijani terrorists have once again targeted the 'Syunik' airport. The security personnel promptly evacuated the guests. The aircraft landed safely despite the attack. Notable figures on board included the head of the Prime Minister's Office, Araik Harutyunyan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, deputy ministers, and other citizens,” he wrote on X.
According to Tsarukyan, such terrorist acts threaten the lives of innocent people and stability. Earlier, the National Security Service of Armenia reported to Sputnik Armenia that they had no information regarding the gunfire heard near the airport.
It is noteworthy that on August 17, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also traveled to Syunik via the Yerevan-Kapan flight. The next day, on August 18, the NSS announced that an unidentified person from Azerbaijan had fired shots towards the Kapan 'Syunik' airport, with two bullets damaging one of the airport's windows and the roof.
On August 18, Ziyafet Askerov, the head of the Azerbaijani parliament's defense committee, stated that the Kapan airport could not be operated because Armenia does not have an agreement with Azerbaijan for this purpose and it is also located close to Azerbaijani border positions.
