VIDEO: How the Mob is Burning Christian Churches in Pakistan
A mob of local residents in Pakistan is burning Christian churches. It is believed that the unrest began following rumors that one of the churches planned to burn the Quran. We have already reported that in Faisalabad, in Punjab province, over 100 people have been arrested after a mob attacked and set fire to several Christian churches, as well as private homes. Authorities have deployed military units to quell the violence. Shops and schools remain closed. Several thousand security forces have been stationed in the eastern part of the city, in the Christian neighborhood. The provincial police chief stated today that 129 people have been arrested.
Pakistan's interim Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar condemned the violence, saying that all those responsible for the attacks on churches will be held accountable. The violence began on August 16, after photos and videos circulated on social media allegedly showing two individuals from the Christian community tearing and burning pages of the Quran, which is considered the holy book of Muslims.
