Poland Plans to Deploy 10,000 Troops at the Belarusian Border

Poland's Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak has announced plans to deploy 10,000 soldiers at the border with Belarus. “Around 10,000 troops will be present at the border, with 4,000 directly supporting border guards and 6,000 stationed in the region,” he stated in an interview with Polish Radio.

The minister noted that the Polish army is actively developing and is equipped with modern weaponry. Currently, the strength of Poland's armed forces stands at 170,000 personnel.

According to Polish authorities, the need to strengthen military presence at the Polish-Belarusian border arose following the deployment of the private military company “Wagner” on Belarusian territory.

At the same time, Warsaw emphasizes that the primary reason for enhancing border security with Belarus is the ongoing migration crisis, which has been unfolding since the autumn of 2021. Polish border guards reportedly register an increase in the number of illegal migrants attempting to enter Poland.
