Colombian President Proposes NATO-Like Organization for the Amazon

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has proposed creating a NATO-like organization for the Amazon. This was announced by the Colombian president during the summit of member countries of the Amazonian treaty, as reported by Kommersant.ru.

He suggested establishing a special court for environmental crimes. According to him, such an organization could coordinate joint military operations under the leadership of defense ministers.

The Colombian president also advocated for the creation of a special tribunal to address environmental crimes. In his view, the countries of the Amazonian treaty could establish a court to resolve cases of environmental crimes that harm the region's nature and the rights of indigenous populations.
