94 French Senators Send Open Letter to Macron on His Policy Failures in Africa

Ninety-four French senators have sent an open letter to President Macron regarding his policy failures in Africa. The letter states that anti-French actions are spreading throughout Africa, reports Figaro newspaper.

Among the authors of the letter are the Senate's first vice president of foreign relations, Roger Karosi, the leader of the Senate's Republican group, Bruno Retailleau, and Christian Cambon, the chairman of the Senate's foreign relations and defense committee.

The senators noted that several African countries, including Niger, Mali, the Central African Republic, and Burkina Faso, have rejected French political, military, and economic influence.

The parliamentarians emphasized that mass anti-French actions are taking place in countries considered close to France, such as Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal. Furthermore, Paris has complicated relations with Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.

The senators pointed out that yesterday's French Africa is being replaced by a military Russian Africa, an economic Chinese Africa, and a diplomatic American Africa.

The parliamentarians expressed the need to reassess the French vision for Africa and its ties with the continent. They believe that the time has likely come when African countries increasingly challenge France's role and presence on the continent.

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced that military intervention is a very real scenario for Niger, where an attempted coup is underway.
