Russian Side Enthusiastically Supports Baku and Yerevan in Document Preparation
In the context of Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations, solutions must be found to a number of complex issues, said Alexey Zaitsev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the recent statement by Denis Gonchar, Director of the Fourth Department of the CIS countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Gonchar stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan had accepted Russia's proposals for reducing tensions in the region for "domestic review." At the same time, he noted that Moscow does not seek to hold meetings for the sake of meetings, "which is often done by Western partners."
“It may be beneficial for someone to speed up the process, to achieve something as soon as possible. But the question is how this will be implemented afterward. This is precisely what he (Gonchar) emphasized in his speech,” Zaitsev noted.
He added that the preparation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty is, as previously stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry, a component of the trilateral agreements between Putin, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
“The Russian side is enthusiastically supporting Baku and Yerevan in the preparation of this document, using political and diplomatic means at all levels. Trilateral summits are held every year, foreign ministers meet regularly, and such a meeting took place recently,” Zaitsev said.
According to him, the signals received from Baku and Yerevan about their commitment to achieving a prompt peace do not necessarily mean that the parties are ready to agree to any conditions.
