How Russia Will Achieve Peace on Its Terms Like in August 2008: Medvedev

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, has made a statement on his Telegram channel regarding the anniversary of the Russo-Georgian 'Five-Day War.' In his message, he drew analogies between Russia's involvement in the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict and the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.

As reported by kommersant.ru, in 2008, it was Dmitry Medvedev, who was serving as President of Russia, that announced on August 8 the commencement of peacekeeping operations in the conflict zone of South Ossetia.

“Behind the back of the imbecile Saakashvili (former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili) stood a collective West, which was already then trying to escalate the situation near Russia's borders. Our armed forces protected our people living in Abkhazia and South Ossetia from the enemy,” he wrote.

Dmitry Medvedev stated that in 2008, “the US and its vassals clearly lacked experience.” However, now, according to the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, “they are again waging a criminal war through others, attempting to erase Russia from the face of the earth.”

“The entire NATO system is practically openly fighting against us. We have enough strength to solve all the tasks of the special military operation. Like in August 2008, our enemies will be crushed, and Russia will achieve peace on its terms,” he added.

It should be noted that Mikheil Saakashvili served as the President of Georgia for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2013. On August 8, 2008, he ordered troops to enter the breakaway territory of South Ossetia. In response, Russia launched military operations against Georgia, which lasted for five days.
