Video: Ministry of Environment Warns Amid Rising Temperatures

The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement warning that rising temperatures bring with them the risk of wildfires.

“To avoid possible fires and their unpredictable consequences, we urge strict adherence to fire safety regulations. We remind you that in forest areas it is prohibited to:

  • Light fires
  • Throw used matches or cigarette butts
  • Leave rags soaked in oils or gasoline
  • Refuel vehicles with internal combustion engines or smoke near refueling vehicles.

Fires are only permitted in designated areas and must be extinguished afterwards. At the same time, we feel it is necessary to remind that according to the RA law on 'Atmospheric Air Protection', it is prohibited to burn stubble, areas with plant residues and dried vegetation, pastures and hayfields in agricultural, forested, forest, and specially protected nature lands,” the statement reads.

Previously, we reported that a powerful heat wave is penetrating into Armenia. Between August 10-13, the highest daytime temperatures are anticipated in the Ararat plain and Yerevan, reaching up to +40...+42 degrees Celsius from 16:00 to 18:00.
