The Shadow of Nuclear War Hangs Over the World: Guterres
The shadow of nuclear war has once again hung over the world. This was stated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his address during the commemorative events dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the American atomic bombing of Hiroshima in Japan.
“The nuclear shadow that loomed over the world during the Cold War has resurfaced, and some countries are recklessly brandishing their swords again, threatening to use this means of destruction,” his message said.
Guterres also referred to the growing distrust and disunity among nations. Additionally, he called on all countries to fully renounce nuclear weapons, emphasizing that this is one of the central goals of the UN. He labeled this renunciation as the only way to eliminate the danger of nuclear war.
