Death Toll from Landslide in Georgia Rises
The death toll from the landslide in Shovi has reached 15. The head of Georgia's Ministry of Regional Development has spoken about the situation at the landslide site in Shovi.
“Work is being carried out with maximum intensity. It is a very complex situation, and the conditions for work are challenging, as we are dealing with a massive area of land,” said Irakli Karseladze.
According to the information from the coordinating headquarters for combating the natural disaster in Shovi, 400 rescuers and more than 200 military personnel are participating in the search efforts.
The government’s press service has reported that foreign countries have offered assistance related to the rescue operations; however, at this stage, the country has everything necessary to overcome the consequences of the landslide.
It is worth noting that the landslide in Shovi occurred on August 3, damaging bridges and roads, as well as tourist cottages and the Sunset Shovi hotel. So far, 210 people have been successfully evacuated.
