Appointment of Hrachya Sargsyan Surprises Ministry of Defense Employees: 'Zhoghovurd'

'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that the official news of Yerevan Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan's appointment as Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia caused a shock. It turns out that people in the Ministry of Defense were also taken by surprise.

According to newspaper information, prior to Hrachya Sargsyan's appointment, there were discussions in the ministry regarding what qualifications the 38-year-old Sargsyan had in relation to the Armed Forces or military affairs. In fact, apart from his military service, he has no other connections to the army.

'Political authorities calmed high-ranking military personnel down by stating that the deputy minister has no ties to the security sector and will be dealing with economic issues. It is worth recalling that former Mayor of Yerevan Hrachya Sargsyan is one of the Deputy Ministers of Defense. During his tenure as mayor, there were significant abuses in the Yerevan metro, which led to a criminal case being launched. These abuses reportedly occurred between 2018 and 2021 during Haik Marutyan’s administration. The State Revenue Committee neither confirmed nor denied these reports. Perhaps after coming to power, Hrachya Sargsyan did not expect the situation in the Yerevan City Hall to be so bad, which may also be a reason why he resigned.'

It is also important to recall that it was previously reported that former Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia.
