Former Metro Director Suspected of Embezzling 30 Million Dram in 41 Instances

According to SHAMSHYAN.com, the investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee in Yerevan has initiated a criminal case based on the report from the head of the State Audit Office, Petrosyan.

The source reports that on July 24, the head of the State Audit Office announced that during an investigation at the Yerevan Metro named after Karen Demirchyan, it was revealed that from March 15, 2020, to June 20, 2022, the company had acquired medical and hygiene supplies from 22 economic entities within the framework of measures aimed at preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, disinfection services were provided to the company.

The largest supplier of these products was the individual entrepreneur Magda Davtyan, who conducted 41 transactions with the company from March 16, 2020, to March 9, 2021, supplying medical supplies. The investigation found that the transactions had been executed at a significantly higher value compared to the prevailing prices at the time, and the volume of the acquisitions had been disproportionately large.

Based on the audit of the State Audit Office and the analysis of information from the State Revenue Committee's integrated tax management system, the State Audit Office concluded that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company's preventative measures resulted in material damage to the state amounting to approximately 30 million dram across at least 41 instances.

According to SHAMSHYAN.com, this case pertains to the tenure of former director Gevorg Avetisyan.
