David Tonoyan's Pretrial Restraint Not Changed

The pretrial detention of former Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan has not been altered by the court. This was reported by Lilith Shaboyan, spokesperson for the Supreme Judicial Council.

"The appellate anti-corruption court has referred the case for a new examination, but the chosen preventive measure of detention has been left unchanged," the statement said.

It is noteworthy that on September 30, 2021, the National Security Service announced the arrest of David Tonoyan and arms dealer David Galstyan on suspicion of committing particularly large-scale theft. Both Tonoyan and Galstyan were detained on the same day. On June 28, the Anti-Corruption Court decided to release David Galstyan for a bail of 40 million drams.

Charges have also been brought against former Chief of the General Staff Artak Davtyan, former Deputy Chief Stepan Galstyan, Head of the Aviation Technical Property Service of the Ministry of Defense Artem Hambaryan, and Chief Engineer of the Aviation Department Vladimir Babayan.

Additionally, David Tonoyan was allowed to attend the meetings of the investigative commission studying the circumstances of the 44-day war on August 1 and 2.
