We Destroyed the Enemy in Meghri, Established Cooperation with Russian Border Troops: Tonoyan
The assessment of the justification for being in Meghri should be provided by my superior at that time. This was the response of former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan during a session of the National Assembly's investigative committee regarding what he was doing in Meghri from October 21 to 29, and whether his presence there was justified instead of being at the Ministry of Defense.
“We had a large number of casualties just 2-3 km away from the state border of Armenia, both among military personnel and among mobilization resources and volunteer units. Among the wounded was the commander of the Meghri battalion. The presence of the Minister of Defense in Meghri had a significant impact both on the population and on the troops. There are facts showing that the units operated quite successfully in that direction, ambushing and destroying the enemy,” he stated.
Tonoyan recounted that he witnessed the shelling of the Russian border troops' post. “A very serious cooperation was established with the Russian border troops on the ground,” he added.
