Hayk Marutyan is being persuaded but still hesitant
Former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan is being urged by certain representatives from his circle to announce his participation in the Yerevan Council elections. This was reported by the "Joghourt" newspaper.
According to the newspaper, particularly active in this regard are his former spokesperson Hakob Karapetyan and Artak Gasparyan, known as Artachok, who is recognized in Russia for his connections. He briefly held an advisory position under Nikol Pashinyan on a pro bono basis.
As per circulating rumors, Marutyan's political team is struggling with even the preliminary compilation of the council list, as the process is proceeding slowly and unsuccessfully. Remarkably, individuals who suddenly received significant roles due to Marutyan have scattered in various directions, unwilling to step out of their comfort zones and oppose the current authorities; in short, they have "flown from Hayk's team."
A source from one of the public opinion research firms has reported that delaying the announcement of his candidacy is already having a serious impact on his rating. Specifically, surveys conducted last week indicate that his rating has reached its lowest level compared to similar surveys over the last two years, and it is highly probable that by August, he will no longer be in second place.
