Only 1 Person Arrested in the Tragic Incident of the Soldier, False Accusations Against Witnesses, Says MP

Honorary group secretary Tigran Abrahamyan writes on his Facebook page: “15 days ago, I visited the deputy commander of the armed forces Ara Mkrtchyan at the Muratsan military hospital, and today I regret to inform that he has passed away. For about 4 years, Mkrtchyan had been confined to his bed due to the brutal beating he suffered as a consequence of the customs introduced by this government. Yet, in this tragic incident, only one person has been placed in custody, and if I am not mistaken, it is only for a 5.5-year sentence. This is despite the fact that those present at the incident and the soldier's relatives insist that it was a group attack involving the then-regional governor and his entourage.

Moreover, currently, there are three witnesses (two of whom are officers) facing charges of ‘false accusation’ at the instigation of the authorities in connection with this tragic incident. The only ‘guilt’ of these witnesses is that they attempted to intervene in the attack on the Armenian soldier and later testified to who and how had brought Ara Mkrtchyan to that state. In order to protect their own at all costs, the government system has deployed its entire unscrupulous apparatus,” he stated.
