VIDEO: Greek Media Deem the Situation in Rhodes Island a Hell
Firefighting efforts continue in Greece for several days in Rhodes, Karistos in Evia, and Achaia region of Peloponnesus. The situation in Rhodes has been described by journalists as a 'hell,' according to Greek reports.
For the 9th day now, a fire has been raging in Rhodes, leading to the evacuation of numerous settlements.
‘Last night was hellish, as only ground forces were active. The scene in the village of Genadi was terrifying. Fire brigades and volunteers were at the fire front trying to contain the massive blaze. Currently, the fire front is between the villages of Genadi and Vathi, and there is also a fire near the village of Malona, which seems to be moving towards Archangelos,’ the report stated.
An emergency state has been declared in Rhodes due to the intense forest fires. This regime will allow for quick allocations of resources to prioritize urgent issues and the restoration of infrastructure and housing. Following the fire that started last week, such a regime had been declared in three municipal regions. One more was added last Sunday, now extending to six regions. Thus, the state of emergency has spread across the entire island.
