UK Proposes to Designate Wagner Group as a Terrorist Organization
The Chair of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, Alicia Kearns, has urged the UK government to tighten restrictions against the Wagner Group and recognize it as a terrorist organization, Reuters reports.
The committee published an 82-page report today, July 26, regarding the group's activities in Africa. According to Kearns, the British cabinet demonstrates a "disturbing ignorance" about how the group operates in African countries beyond Europe.
"With the network being more vulnerable than ever, it is time to act," she stated. Kearns emphasized that the government lacked a coherent strategy and had not made efforts to address the "Wagner issue."
On July 20, the UK imposed sanctions on Wagner Group commanders Ivan Maslov and Vitaly Perfilev in Mali and the Central African Republic, as well as Konstantin Pikalov, who is described as the "right hand" of the group's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
