Hajiyev: It is Unacceptable for Armenia to Politicize the Issue of the Lachin Corridor
The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, has described Armenia's politicization of the Lachin corridor issue as "unacceptable." In a tweet after a meeting attended by ambassadors from EU countries, Turkey, the USA, and Switzerland, Hajiyev stated that Armenia is engaging in "political manipulation and speculation" regarding the Lachin corridor, which can facilitate medical evacuations and supplies.
Hajiyev noted that during the Brussels meeting, an agreement was reached to utilize the Aghdam-Khankendi (Aghdam-Stepanakert) road for larger shipments. The presidential assistant emphasized that this issue was also highlighted in the statement from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
According to him, it is "unacceptable for Armenia to insist on only using the Lachin corridor while rejecting the Aghdam road and politicizing the issue."
It is worth mentioning that in the aftermath of the trilateral meeting in Brussels, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, stated that he underscored the necessity of opening the Lachin corridor and also noted Azerbaijan's willingness to provide humanitarian support through Aghdam. "I emphasized the need to open the Lachin corridor, as well as Azerbaijan's willingness to provide humanitarian support through Aghdam. I see both options. And I encourage that humanitarian supplies are ensured from both sides to meet the needs of the population," Charles Michel mentioned in his statement.
