VIDEO: The Peace Treaty Does Not Guarantee Peace, It Is Clear - Pashinyan
I do not want to discuss such a scenario at all, said Nikol Pashinyan, responding to a question about what the actions of Armenia would be if large-scale military operations were to start in Artsakh. 'In my opinion, there should be no military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh,' Pashinyan stated.
Regarding his previous statement that as long as there is no peace treaty, the likelihood of war is very high, Pashinyan responded: 'Let's fix this, but on the other hand, it is said that there is a movement aimed at preventing the Prime Minister of Armenia from signing a peace treaty. I don’t want to bring many bad examples; the Soviet Union and Germany signed a peace treaty with each other, and shortly afterwards, war broke out. Such situations have occurred in history.'
'Our greatest concern is that we sign a peace treaty that has the greatest chance of ensuring peace. Not only the signing of the peace treaty itself but also its implementation should guarantee peace. Our concern is that even in that case, peace may not be secured, because if one side constantly speaks in an aggressive tone, spreading hatred, that is not a factor that contributes to peace.'
Pashinyan emphasized, 'It is clear that the peace treaty does not guarantee peace, but the absence of a peace treaty also doubles the likelihood of war, and that is a fact.'
