Caucasus Should Not Become a Battlefield for War and Power Competition: Iran's FM at Press Conference with Mirzoyan
Iran is focused on establishing peace in the Caucasus region. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, announcing Tehran's readiness to hold a meeting in the "3+3" format (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Turkey) with the participation of Armenian and Azerbaijani officials.
He made this remark during a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday, emphasizing that the South Caucasus region is of great importance to Iran.
According to mehrnews.com, the Foreign Minister added that Iran welcomes the rapprochement of the countries in the region and the progress in peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Tehran believes that peace and security among neighbors are beneficial to the common interests of the countries in the region. The Caucasus region should not become a battlefield for war and power competition, as this delays peace in the area. Sustainable peace requires friendly and mild interactions between governments and nations,” said Abdollahian.
He also noted that Iran has been an exceptional friend to Armenia, while Mirzoyan, in turn, stated that the historical relations with Iran hold special significance for Armenia.
