Nearly 30,000 people have been evacuated in Greece due to wildfires, according to the news outlet rodiaki.gr. Over 2,500 tourists have been transported by sea from the island of Rhodes.

Rhodes Deputy Mayor Konstantinos Taraslias stated that strong winds are significantly hampering efforts to contain the wildfires. “A great effort is being made to transfer our tourists. The island is currently hosting more than 200,000 tourists in total, with about 8,000 in areas where the fire has broken out,” said Taraslias. He also emphasized that there have been no registered fatalities due to the situation on the island at this time.

Additionally, it has been reported that emergency medical personnel provided first aid to over 60 residents and tourists suffering from respiratory issues. Four adults and two infants have been hospitalized.
