VIDEO: Death Toll Rises After Pipe Explosion at Shopping Center
The number of fatalities has risen to four due to the explosion of a hot water pipe at the "Vremena Goda" shopping center on Kutuzovsky Avenue in Moscow, TASS reports.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims. He confirmed that the tragedy at the shopping center has claimed the lives of three more people. Rescue workers continue their efforts at the scene, the mayor stated.
Earlier, reports indicated that over 50 people were injured as a result of the explosion of the hot water pipe at the "Vremena Goda" shopping center on Kutuzovsky Avenue.
All the deceased are employees of the Globus Gourmet supermarket, where the hot water pipe explosion occurred, according to Life, referencing Shot. The source noted that water flooded the floors, steam rose, yet no evacuation alerts were issued and no alarms were sounded in the shopping center.
