Passenger Takes Control of Plane and Lands After Pilot Becomes Unconscious in the US
A passenger in the United States took control of a plane and landed it after the pilot became unconscious. The female passenger made a solo landing of a six-seat, single-engine aircraft after the 79-year-old pilot lost consciousness. It was the American's first time at the controls.
The woman successfully landed the plane at Martha's Vineyard Airport in Massachusetts with the help of a dispatcher who advised her on what actions to take.
It has been reported that both the passenger and the pilot were transported to the hospital. The man remained in the health facility in a "life-threatening condition." Notably, the aircraft was seriously damaged, with one wing detached from the fuselage; however, fortunately, the woman was not injured.
