Video: Lioness on the Loose in Berlin; Residents Advised to Stay Indoors
A lioness has escaped in the German capital, Berlin. Residents in some parts of the city have been warned to stay indoors as numerous police officers are attempting to find the animal, Reuters reports.
The police believe that the escaped creature is domesticated, as no zoo or circus has reported a missing lion. The incident was first reported by two residents who filmed what appeared to be a wild boar and lion running in pursuit of each other.
Authorities think the lion may currently be sleeping in one of Brandenburg's many forests. “We advise people not to go out for walks and especially not to venture into the forest for strolling or running,” said Michael Gruber, the mayor of Kleinmachnow, located on the southwestern border of Berlin, where the animal was first spotted.
The search for the animal involves two helicopters, drones, and infrared cameras. Numerous police officers have been joined by hunters and veterinarians.
