Doctors in England Begin Large-Scale Strike
Senior doctors in England have initiated a 48-hour strike. According to reports from the BBC, thousands of doctors halted their work and took to the streets starting at 07:00.
The primary demand of the strike is a pay increase. Doctors are calling for a 35% raise in their salaries. This marks the first time since 2012 that doctors have participated in such an extended strike.
As a result, thousands of scheduled surgeries and consultations have been postponed. In some hospitals, up to 50% of doctors have joined the strike.
One hospital director told the BBC that staff are aware there may be a lack of public support for the doctors. Participating doctors also mentioned that the strike was a difficult decision, but deemed it necessary.
