Charles Michel's Statement on the Tripartite Meeting with Pashinyan and Aliyev

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, emphasized the necessity of opening the Lachin corridor and mentioned Azerbaijan's willingness to provide humanitarian assistance towards Aghdam. This statement was made following the tripartite meeting held in Brussels with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

“I have highlighted the need to open the Lachin corridor and noted Azerbaijan's willingness to provide humanitarian assistance towards Aghdam. I see both possibilities, and I encourage humanitarian supplies to meet the needs of the population from both sides,” Michel stated in his announcement.

The head of the European Council also noted, “The European Union has supported direct dialogue between Baku and the Armenians living in the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region. This dialogue should build much-needed trust among all parties involved.”

Earlier, the Armenian government reported on the tripartite meeting, stating: “During the meeting, the deepening humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh caused by Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor was discussed, as well as issues related to the delimitation of borders and ensuring border security between the two countries, unblocking regional transport and economic infrastructures, agreements on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, addressing the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and humanitarian issues related to prisoners, missing persons, and other matters.”
