Armenian Developers Association Presents Several Solutions to Combat Dust Issues
The elevated levels of dust (especially in Yerevan) have become a real headache for citizens, developers, and government agencies alike. In an interview with Sputnik Armenia, Gurgen Grigoryan, head of the Armenian Developers Association, stated that there is still no constructive, comprehensive solution to the problem, and all proposals are localized and temporary in nature.
"As a resident myself, I constantly face the issue of high levels of dusty, polluted air. We have held several meetings with the Armenian Environmental, Mining Inspection Agency, and the Ministries of Environment and Economy. Amendments have been made to the legislative regulations on air pollution regarding equipping construction sites with opaque protective layers. However, there is a problem: as long as there are no regulations specifying the standards that these protective materials must meet, it is practically not implemented," noted Grigoryan.
Earlier, the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center reported that according to data from 2022, the permissible norm for dust concentration in the air is 0.15 mg/m³. In Yerevan, it has reached 0.5 mg/m³, meaning it exceeds the norm by about 3-4 times.
The Armenian Developers Association believes that measures to combat dust should be implemented within reasonable limits, ensuring that conditions do not become akin to "aquarium conditions" for workers at construction sites.
"It should not be the case that we have opaque plastic sheeting, making it impossible for workers to perform their jobs on construction sites. This could ultimately lead to issues that are incompatible with life or health," Grigoryan pointed out.
