Clear Waste Collection Crisis in the City, Bins Not Emptied for 4-5 Days: User
“There is clearly a waste collection crisis in the city, bins have not been emptied for 4-5 days, some of the bins are broken, and over 50 waste collection vehicles are out of order. Yesterday, a waste truck driver said, ‘there are no backups, all the vehicles are broken,’” wrote user Eduard Hayrumyan.
“It is obvious that this situation is not favorable to the city authorities and everyone wants to return to the normal waste collection of the past as soon as possible. But this is happening in the capital of the Republic of Armenia, in front of a million residents, which is unacceptable. No official page has the guts to explain the real reasons for the problem to the residents, apologize, and clarify when it will be resolved.
The only official response came from the Nor Nork administrative district, for which I am grateful.
I suggest that the Yerevan Municipality and the community institution 'Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitation' provide official information on the situation and clearly state what actions are being taken to rectify it and when the problem will be resolved.
P.S. Up until June 30, 2023, waste collection in Yerevan was being carried out properly, and it was rare to encounter overflowing bins. This is to ensure that no official can say that waste collection in Yerevan has always been like this a month later,” wrote Hayrumyan.
It is noted that the Nor Nork administrative district had issued a statement indicating that multiple complaints and letters have been received regarding the waste collection issue.
“Staff from the Nor Nork administrative district have contacted the 'Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitation' community institution and learned that technical problems have arisen. In a few days, the 'Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitation' community institution will be replenished with new vehicles, and waste collection will return to normal,” the statement reads.
