Russia's Foreign Ministry Comments on Erdogan's Decision to Approve Sweden's NATO Membership Application
Moscow does not forget that Turkey is a NATO member. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, while commenting on Ankara's decision to approve Sweden's application for NATO membership.
According to her, the Kremlin judges by actions and draws corresponding conclusions. "Turkey is a NATO member; we have never forgotten that. We judge by actions and draw conclusions," Zakharova said.
It should be noted that earlier NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that Turkey had agreed to accept Sweden as part of the military bloc. According to him, the agreement was reached during negotiations involving Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and European Council President Charles Michel.
Additionally, it has been reported by CNN Türk that the Turkish parliament may ratify Sweden's application for NATO membership by July 21. If a positive decision is made, the document will be signed by Erdogan.
