I Not Only Don’t Believe What Oskanian Says, I Also Find It Ridiculous: Hakob Aslanyan

"I believe that the authorities are not prepared to give Vardan Oskanian such an opportunity because it is unreasonable. This was stated by Hakob Aslanyan, a member of the National Assembly’s Civil Contract faction, during an interview with NEWS.am, referring to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanian’s claim that if he is given the authority to negotiate for three months while Nikol Pashinyan remains silent, he could bring a beneficial resolution to the negotiations.

“It is unreasonable because, first of all, if a person has been in that position for about ten years and has not been able to do it during that time, from where is the confidence that he can do it in three months? This directly proves once again that the former authorities, both in the past and now, have not understood why they ruled in the past and why they want to come to power,” he said.

Aslanyan added that he not only does not believe what Oskanian says but also finds it ridiculous: “Because today there is an international community, numerous mediation missions exist, and a massive amount of work is being done diplomatically in all forms. Today, Armenia is trying to present itself to the world with new approaches, to prove to the world that it has a state and statehood, and that the statehood of this country does not depend on any individual or group’s interests. The governmental functions of our country abroad are completely directed towards the future of our people, to come and tell the people that, after all, the problems that have arisen over decades and centuries that have prevented state and statehood development in the Armenian world are being addressed today.

The unfortunate thing is that in our history we have had governments, we have had a state, but we have not had statehood, because this government has not belonged to the Armenian people, has not been in favor of Armenians. Even during the USSR, our state was not the people’s state; it belonged to the Bolshevik Party. Now the time has come to lay the foundations of the state and statehood,” emphasized the member of the Civil Contract party.
