I Made a Remark: Arthur Abraham on the Incident in Northern Avenue

A video circulating on social media involving me has not had any serious consequences. I made a remark to a street musician singing with a loudspeaker on Northern Avenue for playing loud music under our windows at all hours, disturbing our children's sleep regularly. This is a serious issue that I invite the attention of the Yerevan city hall to address.

Arthur Abraham, the former WBO world champion in professional boxing, said this in an interview with NEWS.am. “The problem is that there is a loudspeaker set up at every corner on Northern Avenue, with people collecting money for their songs. They are not singing; they just turn on the loudspeaker and play whatever music they want and whatever volume they choose. It disturbs children’s sleep, and you can't relax at home, step out onto the balcony, enjoy a cup of coffee at a cafe, or take a walk. They play music as loud as they want, whenever they want, disrupting the peace of residents. Mothers are struggling to put their children to sleep. They disturb my child and the sleep of our children,” said Abraham.

In his conversation with the media, he added that this has become a serious issue in our city: “I want the city hall to pay attention to this problem. Residents of Northern Avenue have repeatedly contacted the municipality, but there has been no response. You won’t see street musicians anywhere in Yerevan now – at Cascade, on Arami Street, or the Opera – they’ve been removed and banned. Only Northern Avenue remains. At every 10 meters, there is someone with loud music. The argument yesterday was about this issue, and there was no other problem. Someone needs to speak about this so that a solution is found. Let them also ban performances on Northern Avenue. Let them go and sing in places where there are no nearby residential buildings. They should perform on the Republic Square where they wouldn’t disturb anyone. This is out of control; you can’t relax at home. They play whatever music they want, at any time of day. This is unacceptable, right?” said Arthur Abraham.
