172 Educational Institutions to Be Built in Armenian Regions

The Armenian government has reallocated 313 million 995 thousand drams from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS) budget for 2023. The funds will be used to acquire project documentation necessary for the construction of 42 institutions in the Lori and Shirak regions, which includes the establishment of 15 educational complexes, 20 schools, and the construction of gymnasiums and concert halls.

This information was provided by the Public Relations and Information Department of the MoESCS. The report was presented by Minister Zhanna Andreasyan, stating that this is another decision within the framework of the Government's program for 2021-2026, which aims to build, reconstruct, and overhaul 500 kindergartens and 300 schools. According to her, workgroups have visited schools in deplorable conditions and with a small number of students to conduct thorough assessments in the Lori and Shirak regions.

“In essence, Lori and Shirak were the last two regions. With this decision, the total number of educational institutions being constructed across all regions of Armenia will amount to 172, of which 84 will be educational complexes and 81 will be separate schools. Seven schools will be fully completed as a result of the construction and renovation of gymnasiums and concert hall premises. Thus, the government has allocated approximately 1.6 billion drams for the acquisition of necessary project documentation for the construction of 172 institutions. Similar project proposals will soon be presented for schools in Yerevan and in those areas of Lori and Shirak that require additional assessment,” the Minister emphasized, highlighting that the designed capacities of the constructed institutions are calculated for around 50,000 children.

Zhanna Andreasyan reminded that last year, construction work was completed in 24 schools under other programs, and construction is currently ongoing in over 100 institutions. “We regularly have discussions coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, and I believe we are on the path to ensuring 300 schools and more within this program,” the Minister stated.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of the program for constructing, reconstructing, and overhauling 500 kindergartens and 300 schools, noting that its goal is to ensure access to quality education for all children in every community in Armenia.

In Lori region, 32 communities have been selected, of which educational complexes will be established in 11, new school buildings will be built for 11, gymnasiums and concert halls will be constructed in 2, while educational premises will be renovated. Four of the schools require additional assessment, and two will only need ongoing repairs later.

In Shirak region, 27 communities have been selected, with 4 educational complexes to be established, new school buildings to be built for 9, gymnasiums and concert halls for 5, while educational premises will be renovated. One school requires additional assessment, and four will only need ongoing repairs later.

Moreover, to save time and financial resources, it has been decided to obtain documentation through existing project layouts accumulated over the years, except for one school that requires an individualized project.
