Video: 120 Capsules of Cocaine Worth $300,000 Found in the Intestines of a Passenger Arriving in Armenia
Recently, the employees of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the RA State Revenue Committee, acting on received operational information, discovered another large case of drug smuggling in collaboration with the employees of the passenger customs control division of the Western Customs Directorate.
Specifically, it was reported that one of the passengers arriving in Armenia from the Federative Republic of Brazil on the São Paulo-Paris-Yerevan flight might be transporting cocaine.
A citizen of Brazil, identified as L.P., arriving at the Zvartnots Airport of Armenia International Airports CJSC, underwent personal customs examination. Suspecting that the citizen might be hiding drugs in his body, he was subjected to a visual inspection. As a result, foreign bodies were observed in his body, prompting the officials of the Western Customs Directorate and the Medical and Diagnostic Procedures division to transfer the Brazilian citizen to a medical center for extraction.
Computed tomography performed at the medical center revealed the presence of spherical foreign bodies in the segment of his large intestine. These were removed through various medical interventions. A total of 120 oval capsules similar to cocaine were found, with a total weight of 1216 grams. The market value of the discovered drugs exceeded 300,000 USD.
In connection with the incident, the employees of the Anti-Smuggling Department compiled a report about the case, qualifying it under Article 399 of the RA Criminal Code. The substances, along with the confiscated drugs, have been transferred to the Main Department of Economic Crimes and Smuggling Investigations of the Investigative Committee, where a criminal case has been initiated. The Brazilian citizen has been detained and subsequently arrested.
The Anti-Smuggling Department continues to undertake operational and investigative measures to identify other possible individuals connected to the case.
