Salmonella Cause in Chicken Meat Still Unresolved by SSM, But Suspensions Lifted

Salmonella Cause in Chicken Meat Still Unresolved by SSM, But Suspensions Lifted
The SSM has lifted suspensions on chicken production despite ongoing investigations into salmonella contamination.

On June 2, Hetq reported on the results of a laboratory investigation into locally produced chicken meat conducted alongside the Food Safety Inspection Body (SSM), which revealed the presence of salmonella in frozen chicken from "Getamej" and "Araks Poultry Factory." As a result, the SSM temporarily suspended the operations of these two companies, but these suspensions have recently been lifted.

What was the cause of the salmonella outbreak? Were the birds sick, or did the meat become contaminated during slaughtering, packaging, or processing stages? Neither manufacturer is willing to answer this question, and the SSM has stated that the cause of the salmonella emergence will only be clarified after a review of the inspection data.

The media outlet revisited the topic, stating: "While the cause of the contaminant remains unclear and unresolved, the production facility had no right to operate in any capacity, yet both 'Getamej' and 'Araks Poultry Factory' have continued to work without clarifying the precise reason for the occurrence of salmonella.

After the decision to suspend the activities of 'Getamej' and 'Araks Poultry Factory,' our readers regularly sent in photos showing that products from these two companies continued to be sold in stores."
