Police Officers Often Lack Necessary Knowledge: Manasyan

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, has learned from the media that police used violence against citizens suspected of drug possession at a club. During a press briefing with journalists after a government meeting, she stated that efforts are being made to obtain proper information regarding this issue.

However, the Defender has noted that it is crucial to conduct retraining within the legal and police systems, as, according to her, officers often do not possess the knowledge and skills required to manage crisis situations, including when the use of force is proportionate and when it is not.

“This phenomenon is indeed concerning. We can draw conclusions after conducting an investigation, but we cannot turn a blind eye to this issue and claim that there are no problems. Comprehensive work is necessary in this regard,” Manasyan emphasized.
