Open Manhole Causes Major Accident for Lexus Driver
A major accident occurred in Yerevan. Yesterday, on June 27, around 21:40, a 23-year-old resident of Yerevan, Hovhannes Karapetyan, a citizen of both Russia and Armenia, driving a Lexus LX vehicle, fell into an open manhole on Isakov Avenue. Unable to control the vehicle, he veered off the roadway, crashed into a tree, uprooted it, and continued moving, partially ending up in the middle of the road.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan at the scene, fortunately, there were no injuries reported initially. The driver underwent a sobriety test on site and was found to be sober.
If the driver had misjudged the situation during that critical hour, a chain reaction accident could have occurred, potentially resulting in injuries. It is noted that if the Yerevan municipality and the administrative staff responsible for that area had timely cleaned the manhole, which was completely filled with mud and debris, and had installed the manhole cover, this accident could have been avoided.
“At least after this incident, the relevant authorities should not adopt an 'ostrich' stance,” the news outlet remarks.
