I Remain Determined on the Artsakh Issue: Macron to the Armenian Community in Marseille
French President Emmanuel Macron met with various influential circles in Marseille, including economic, artistic, political, community, sports, cultural, commercial, and educational representatives during his three-day visit to the city. This was reported by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation's press service.
In the evening, during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Marseille, which was also attended by Deputy Sabrina Akresti-Rupash, in response to a call directed at him, Macron stated: "Mr. President, we expect a stronger initiative—practical and not just moral." He added, "I have put more pressure on Aliyev and will continue to do so than he has on Pashinyan. The question is Pashinyan; on the Artsakh issue, I am the only one with a clear position and message."
Responding to the president's statement, Hrach Vardapetyan, a representative of the ARF Central Committee of Western Europe, said: "Mr. President, we, as citizens of France, appeal to you as our president, as well as the co-chair of the Minsk Group, and expect that you will provide practical support to our compatriots in Artsakh. We know that our colleague Murat Papazian, co-chair of the Council of French-Armenian Organizations, has discussed the alarming and deeply concerning situation in Artsakh with you on several occasions, and we appeal to you with the same demand and at the same level. It should also be clear that any talk or intent to see historical Armenian Artsakh within Azerbaijan is unacceptable for us."
Macron also stated: "Do not doubt my determination regarding Artsakh and Armenia in general; I will continue my efforts, even if I am almost the only one in the international community with this agenda. You also know that France has sent its military attaché to its embassy in Armenia for the first time, which should mean something, right? We must do everything possible, the utmost."
