VIDEO: Peskov Calls Statement on Russia's Fate Attributed to Him a Fake
The press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, stated that he said nothing about the 'fateful' significance of Vladimir Putin's evening speech.
Ten minutes before the country's president's speech, the Vesti television channel, as well as journalist Vladimir Solovyov, quoted Dmitry Peskov's words: 'These statements (by Putin) will undoubtedly determine Russia's fate.'
Peskov himself, responding to a question from The Bell, called this quotation fake. 'No such statement was made. It is very unprofessional of many to say this,' he said.
At the same time, it is notable that the mentioned statement was circulated not only on Telegram channels and media but also during live broadcasts of some federal channels. As The Bell notes, the original source of the quotes is the anonymous Telegram channel BRIEF, while in other sources, this citation is referenced through media outlets or other Telegram channels.
Later, the BRIEF channel explained that the quotation was taken from the Telegram channel 'Старая площадь,' which posted it at 21:45. Peskov's quote appeared in BRIEF at 21:53.
'We made an incorrect statement without referencing a source. We apologize to our readers,' BRIEF stated.
Solovyov deleted the post.
