The Directorate for Combating Drug Trafficking of the Criminal Police has received operational information through its unit combating illegal drug trafficking on the Internet regarding three residents of the capital, one 22 years old and the others 25, who are engaged in the illegal sale of drugs via various accounts registered on the Telegram application. Acting on this information, a 22-year-old young man was arrested on June 21 at 13:30 on Pirumyan Street in Yerevan and taken to the Mashtots Police Department, as reported by the Armenian Police.
“During a personal search at the police department, methamphetamine and marijuana were discovered, which, according to initial data, he had obtained from the 22-year-old seller who was operationally detected by the law enforcement agencies. Continuing operational and investigative measures, on the same day at 15:30, another dealer was discovered and arrested on Gulbenkian Street and presented to the investigative department, who gave a confession. He also stated that he is the owner of an account on the Telegram application involved in the illegal drug trade and that he has sold drugs to various individuals through this account.
Upon learning of his arrest, the accomplices of the 22-year-old arranged to meet near one of the buildings on Babajanyan Street in the capital to transfer the drugs and weapons to a safe location. Officers of the Criminal Police arrested the accused 25-year-olds, one of their wives and her friend, and a 35-year-old taxi driver at the designated location, along with their vehicles.
On the same day, a criminal case was initiated in the Malatya investigative department, and on June 22 searches were conducted in the vehicles that had been transferred to the designated secure area. A total of approximately 16 grams of cocaine, 113 grams of methamphetamine, 278 grams of marijuana, and 1346 ecstasy pills were discovered, as well as a revolver and 79 bullets.
The suspects have been arrested, and the circumstances are being clarified during the preliminary investigation. The police once again remind that it is also illegal to place drugs in various locations through accounts that trade illegal drugs on the Internet, which warrants a severe legal assessment,” the statement reads.
