Two Armenian Women Die of Hunger in Sudan: Official Yerevan Confirms

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed, in response to a query from Radio Liberty, that the bodies of two Armenian women were discovered in Khartoum, Sudan, on June 10, who are believed to have starved to death in the first days of June.

"Before the situation in Khartoum worsened and during the days when residents were advised to leave the city, two Armenian sisters (one of whom is named Zvarte Ekavyan) were also offered the chance to exit the city. However, the elder sister had mobility issues, and the younger sister (61 years old) did not want to leave the capital and chose to stay behind to care for her elder sibling," explains the Armenian MFA, citing members of the Armenian community in Sudan.

According to the information provided by Armenia's diplomatic authorities, local Sudanese residents had assisted the Armenian sisters in sourcing food for some time, but later, "the situation became complicated, and the sisters went without food for days."
