Why are Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan free? The Justice Minister provides clarification

During a brief press conference after the Government session, Armenia's Minister of Justice Grigor Minasian answered the question of why Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan are at liberty.

"I believe that in our country, regardless of which era you were a public servant and independent of which team you were from, everyone will be held accountable if they have committed a crime. In significant and serious cases, more extensive work is expected. What's good is that progressively, the law enforcement system is becoming more professional, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to evade accountability through loopholes," he stated.

Minasian also responded to inquiries regarding the prosecutors of the aforementioned presidents, who were relieved of their duties one after another at their own request, which raised suspicions. He said, "For me, not at all. Reforms are being made within the system, and, naturally, there will be individuals who do not adapt to the new methodologies and will exit. When you want to achieve your strategic objectives, you make decisions related to your team; if you cannot adapt, you can move on to other jobs."

According to him, regardless of which authority a person is part of, who their friend is, whether they are a minister or anyone else, all will be held accountable. Without exception, individuals will bear responsibility.
