EU Spokesperson's Statement on the Near-Complete Blockade of the Lachin Corridor is Highly Concerning

The EU is closely monitoring the escalating tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the past few weeks, which have been marked by daily gunfire along their international border, in addition to similar incidents along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh, stated Nabila Massrali, the spokesperson for EU foreign relations.

“Since June 15, the near-complete blockade of the Lachin corridor is highly concerning. It directly threatens the livelihoods of the local population and raises serious concerns about a potential humanitarian crisis,” the statement said.

“Following a series of high-level meetings, the EU continues to engage at the highest political levels to help ease this tension and find mutually acceptable solutions,” it added.

It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani side has resorted to yet another provocation and unlawful action by blocking the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia (the Lachin corridor) with a concrete barrier.
