Meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers to Take Place Next Week in Washington: Pashinyan

Next week, a meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will take place in Washington. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at a government session.

Earlier today, State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said that the U.S. is ready to host the next phase of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan very soon.

“Regarding Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, our position remains the same: we must exert all efforts for the establishment of peace. Next week, the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will take place in Washington, and our delegation is heading to the U.S. with this mindset,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also reported that Armenia has proposed to Azerbaijan to hold a meeting of the delimitation commission, and there is already a principal agreement.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, Pashinyan noted that the humanitarian situation is beginning to worsen, and even the movement of the Red Cross has been restricted. “The reason is that Azerbaijan is not complying with the decisions of the International Court of Justice. This disregard for the court's ruling by Azerbaijan has led to a humanitarian crisis. Everything is being done to make it impossible for Armenians to live in Artsakh. This is exactly the ethnic cleansing we have been talking about for years,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to him, the resolution of the situation, from the Armenian side’s perspective, is as follows: the decision of the International Court of Justice is a matter on the international agenda, as well as a matter for the UN Security Council. Additionally, according to Pashinyan, the international mechanism of Baku-Stepanakert must be activated, within the framework of which the rights and security issues of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh will be addressed.
