Those Acting Under the Name of Mediator Do Not Want Peace in This Region

Russia continues to engage with the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation process, despite the increase in the number of those wishing to perform the role of "moderators." This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing.

"Of course, it is not only the Foreign Ministry; our embassy, our experts are working in daily mode, our peacekeeping forces ensure security, border guards, and so on. You see high-level activity, how foreign ministers are working; we have special representatives," she said.

Zakharova noted that the process of Russia's participation in the resolution is ongoing without holiday breaks or any rests. The long-standing, complicated conflict has finally received a practical opportunity for resolution.

"There has been an increase in those wanting to moderate from the outside. There were startling reports that the U.S. might even use forceful tactics for this. This certainly does not add any element to the resolution process, but only complicates it and pushes it back. We understand what this is done for. Because the proactive steps our country has taken since 2020—as a genuine mediator, a true friend of both Armenia and Azerbaijan who wishes to resolve this situation—have caused shock in the West," she said.

Zakharova emphasized that "those acting under the name of moderators and mediators do not want peace and prosperity for this region." Additionally, it was previously reported by a diplomatic source in the U.S. to RIA Novosti that Washington is imposing an ultimatum for representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh to meet with representatives of Azerbaijan in a third country, threatening to conduct an Azerbaijani anti-terror operation if they refuse. According to the agency's interlocutor, the lobbying for the American peacekeeping initiative is being conducted by the foreign minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, Sergey Ghazaryan, whose interests completely align with those of Azerbaijan.
