US Explains Delay of Mirzoyan-Bayramov Meeting

The next round of negotiations between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, scheduled for this week in Washington, has been postponed due to scheduling issues. This was announced by Matthew Miller, the official spokesperson of the US State Department, during a press briefing.

It was previously reported that the discussions between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, originally set for June 12 in Washington, were postponed at the request of Baku.

“Unfortunately, this meeting did not take place due to scheduling issues, and we look forward to it occurring as soon as possible,” Miller stated.

According to the State Department representative, both sides continue to engage in peaceful dialogue. Washington remains convinced that direct communication is the key to resolving outstanding issues.

“We believe that an agreement is within reach,” the US diplomat added.

Recall that the previous ministerial talks in Washington lasted four days (from May 1 to 4). They met twice with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. After the negotiations, the Secretary of State stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan had made significant progress towards signing a peace agreement.
