Paris City Council Adopts Resolution on Humanitarian Aid for Artsakh

The Paris City Council approved a resolution in June 2023 regarding the urgent need to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Artsakh and those displaced from Artsakh to Armenia.

The resolution notably indicates: “Considering that the population of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has been cut off from the outside world since December 12, 2022, due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor, through which only emergency humanitarian aid has been transported, considering the critical urgency of supporting the population under blockade by Azerbaijan and the presence of French-Armenian organizations already experienced in this domain that can acquire non-perishable food supplies suitable for the needs of the Artsakh population in Armenia and direct them to the intended recipients, considering that on November 27, 2020, the Paris City Council voted in favor of a resolution calling for France to recognize the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and appeals to other French local authorities to provide humanitarian support to the population of Artsakh, considering that the Mayor of Paris has repeatedly reminded about the assistance provided by the Paris City Hall to the Armenian people, regardless of their place of residence, with the latest reference being during the ceremony dedicated to the 108th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, 2023, considering that the Paris City Hall has a tradition of supporting populations that fall victim to massive human rights violations and raising alerts about severe humanitarian conditions, considering that Yerevan is a member of the International Association of Francophone Mayors, which includes several other cities with Armenian communities, considering that it is decisive for the Paris City Hall to extend its support to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh once again, the Executive's proposal requests the Paris City Council to express its desire for the Mayor of Paris to be granted the right to address other local government entities in France, as well as foreign cities that are members of the International Association of Francophone Mayors, requesting assistance for urgent humanitarian aid which will deliver non-perishable food items to the population of Artsakh and refugees sheltered in Armenia via humanitarian truck convoys.”
